In the fall of 2017, the Board of Directors of Agape Street Ministry and Sancta Maria House approved moving forward with the project to build a 2nd Stage Recovery House.

With over 20 years of making an impact in the community on women who are suffering from substance abuse, it was recognized that there was a need for another level of support.

The Volunteers of Agape Street Ministry are easily recognized by their red jackets walking the streets of downtown Eastside, Surrey and Chilliwack where they distribute bags of candy and prayer cards to women on the street to show them love and support and give them hope for a better future.

Sancta Maria House, situated in Vancouver, is a Catholic Christian Healing/Recovery Home for women who have chosen to be freed from substance abuse. This is a residential long stay home for women from all faith backgrounds including those with no faith background. Women choosing to make at least a six(6) month commitment are offered a safe loving home where they experience unconditional love in a true family environment where they are loved and accepted. They receive inspirational resources, pastoral guidance, counseling, the 12 Step A/A Program, receive one on one support, and take part in recreational activities and social events.

With the recent opioid crisis and legalization of cannabis the need for 1st stage recovery will significantly increase. But 1st stage recovery is not enough and there is an increasing need for a 2nd Stage Recovery House to ensure successful reintegration into Society.

Women that come through 1st stage often lack family support and are susceptible to land back on the street.

Women that have completed the 1st stage often have small children and need a nurturing family structured environment to be reunited with their children who have often moved from foster home to foster home.

Mothers separated from their biological children for lengthy periods need to learn how to play with them, care for them and learn how to be good parents.

The children need to rebuild trust and love for their mother.

After a long absence from the workforce women need to learn to reintegrate into the community and workforce

The Boards of Sancta Maria House and Agape Street Ministry have a shared vision to build or purchase a 10-20 bedroom home in the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley Region to create a safe and nurturing environment where women can be safely reintegrated into society with their children.
